Q&A

What supplies are needed for a hedgehog?

You will need a cage 2’x3’ in size or bigger. A heat source that contains a heat lamp with a CHE bulb. A thermometer and a thermostat. For bedding, i recommend anti pill fleece. Some sort of home. Can be anything that makes the little spike babies happy. An igloo, a house of some kind or even a box. Toys, could be fleece strips, ping pong balls, pom poms or even a small stuffed animal. A food and water bowls or containers. There are different ones out there.

What do they eat?

Not all hedgehogs will eat bugs. I use a mix of 3 high quality cat foods and we call it kibble. They need a diet consistent in protein and low in fat, as close as possible to the recommended amount  of 30-35% protein and 10-13% fat.

All new rescues are given bugs and treats to see what they will eat.

I personally will NOT feed “hedgehog food” unless it’s Hedgehog Precision.

How do I relinquish a hedgehog

There is a link at the bottom for the relinquishment form. We do not accept any animals that do not go through this process. You’re welcome to print it and fill it out and hand it to me. I will email it to them if I need to. We need as much information as you can give us about the hedgehog.

Why is the truth important?

We understand that you are relinquishing your hedgehog for all kinds of reasons. We are not here to judge you. We are here for the hedgehogs. The information you provide will helps us to tell the vet things to look for during our first check up. If there’s been bleeding, we can put them on the right meds. If they had mites, it means a skin scrap and 2 doses of meds. If you tell me your hedgehog is a senior hog, they have special needs. We do this out of our pockets and lies cost us more money and could cost the animal his/her life.

How do we adopt?

First, you need to fill out the adoption form. Theres a link at the bottom of the page. Once approved, you will be put on a list of approved adopter. You’re also welcome to call or email and see if we have any spike babies ready for adoption. You must be approved to adopt. We do have a rehoming fee of $50. Please keep in mind, this does not cover their initial vet visit when we get them anymore. I also send a care package with them when they are adopted.

How do we donate?

Running a rescue can be expensive. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. We have a pinned post on our Facebook page with links for items on Amazon. There is also a link at the bottom for PayPal donations. It will only be used for rescues and not our personal animals. My hedgehogs only go to Chestnut Animal Clinic in Conway, AR. Donations given on our pages go to this rescue station. It also goes to add more things so we can accept more hedgehogs. Donations made to us goes to our rescues and our rescue station only.

    Help Our Cause

Your support and contributions will help us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission. Not all of the hedgies we get are in good condition. We love them as our own and give them the veterinarian care they need. Every rescue is taken to the vet for a wellness check.
